Celtic supporters have been making a lot of noise in the Transfer Tavern during the international break after seeing their side make history in their last Scottish Premiership outing, as victory at St Johnstone extended their unbeaten domestic run to 63 games, thus breaking their own 100-year record.
Brendan Rodgers’ men completely dominated football north of the border last season by winning the league, the Scottish Cup, and the Scottish League Cup, and they’ve made their intentions clear again this term with a three-point lead at the top of the division, as well as a spot in the latter’s showpiece later this month. And they made history last time out as a 4-0 thumping of St Johnstone extended their unbeaten domestic run to 63 games, thus beating the previous record set by the Bhoys back in 1917.
As such, there have been many delighted Celtic supporters in the Tavern recently, although they are unlikely to be overly thrilled by a recent report from Football Insider, which suggests that they will face stiff competition from a Premier League trio for the signature of Reading defender Liam Moore.
The 24-year-old made the move to the Madejski Stadium back in 2016 after falling down the pecking order at Leicester City, and he has since been excellent for the Royals with several impressive displays helping Jaap Stam’s side reach the Championship play-off final last season.
And the centre-back has continued his fine form into this campaign, and it’s form which reportedly attracted the interest of Rodgers’ Celtic, who are on the lookout for reinforcements to their backline given their depleted options.
Yet they are set to face a battle to land the Englishman as reports suggest that Stoke City, West Brom, and West Ham are all interested in Moore, which certainly leaves the Reading ace’s future up in the air ahead of the January transfer window.
Landlord’s verdict: Liam Moore has seriously impressed since making the move to Reading in 2016, and played a key part in helping Jaap Stam’s side make the Championship play-off final last term, even if his missed penalty did ultimately contribute to their defeat at Wembley.
Yet the 24-year-old has again produced some important displays in the heart of the Royals backline this term, and it’s form which has reportedly attracted the interest of several clubs around Britain, not least Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic.
The former Reading boss is on the lookout for defensive reinforcements given that the likes of Jozo Simunovic and Erik Sviatchenko have struggled with injury this time round, and clearly sees Moore as exactly the sort of defender he wants in his backline.
But with three Premier League clubs also thought to be interested, as well as Royals boss Stam making it clear that he has no intentions of selling Moore, this looks set to be another setback for Rodgers in his pursuit of defensive reinforcements.
