The Newcastle fans in the Transfer Tavern have been giving their verdict in the future of Karl Darlow, who, according to The Chronicle, is ready to resume contract talks with the club as he prepares to fight for his place. The ex-Forest shot-stopper has spent most of his Magpies career competing with Rob Elliot for the number one shirt, although the signing of Martin Dubravka has usurped both of the ‘keepers.

Darlow has spent the majority of the season on the bench this year. The 27-year-old found his game time limited before the club opted to bring in Sparta Prague’s Dubravka on-loan, although the competition for places only got tougher when the Slovakian arrived. Dubravka’s debut against Manchester United set the tone for the rest of the season as the man between the sticks kept a clean-sheet and impressed all who were watching as Newcastle edged past Jose Mourinho’s side 1-0.
Considering the success that Rafa Benitez had with the on-loan shot-stopper, the fact that he’s been brought in to St James Park on a permanent basis has come as a surprise to no one. Whilst the fans will be buzzing with the fact that Dubravka has been snapped up, for Darlow, it makes life much more difficult and although he may seem happy to fight for his place in the North East it could see him sold in the coming weeks as the club chase transfer funds to continue Benitez squad revamp.

I’d rather we free up a place for Woodman and move Darlow on

Give the lad another chance like we did years ago with shaka hislop. He needs game time

I think he's had his chance, shame really because he looked decent to start with. Too many mistakes I think.
