Arsenal fans seem to have been heaped in misery here in the Football Transfer Tavern since the injury news concerning Theo Walcott filtered though.
However, Metro has a claim that could well put smiles back on the faces of the Gunners supporters.
The popular publication claims that the Gunners could well be edging closer to their transfer target Yoann Gourcuff.
This is after it was noted that Lyon were not only willing to allow him to leave, but that he was in talks with a so called ‘top club’.
The French midfielder has been a long-term target for Arsene Wenger, who has made it clear just how much he admires the player, but has always been equally firm that the asking price from the Ligue 1 club was too high.
Now it seems that Lyon are not only willing to lower the asking price for the player but they are also willing to allow him to leave.
“Gourcuff is a player we are happy to let go during the transfer window,” said Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas.
“We are in discussions with a big club over him at the moment.”
Of course it is not certain that Arsenal are the club in talks for the player, yet it seems that Wenger is dead set on bringing some of his top targets in this winter.
Would Yoann Gourcuff represent a good signing by Arsenal or do they already have too many midfielders? Let us know your thoughts below.
