According to the Daily Mail, Arsenal are set to hold talks with CSKA Moscow regarding star striker Seydou Doumbia who was recently linked with a move to Chelsea.
The Ivorian striker finished as the top marksmen in the Russian top-flight with 28 goals this term, something which has led the Russian club to value Doumbia at £26million. However Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger will no doubt be looking to negotiate the reported figure as he looks to try and fit the transfer in the realms of Arsenal’s budget.
Something which could work in Arsenal’s favour when negotiating the price could be the fact CSKA Moscow failed to qualify for next seasons Champions League after a disappointing league campaign. This means revenues generated from the competition will no longer be entering the club and with Doumbia is said to be looking to move on after such a dismal season, CSKA Moscow therefore may be forced to sell their prized asset for more realistic fee.
It is however difficult to see why Wenger would splash out such a transfer fee on Doumbia, with Robin Van Persie staring in the lone striker role predominantly at The Emirates. Any move for Doumbia would surely signal the end is nigh for Van Persie’s stint at the club as the striker continues to stall on the signing of a new contract with Arsenal.
