With the transfer deadline fast approaching, reports are suggesting Arsene Wenger is ready to splash the cash on Manchester City’s Edin Dzeko. Valued at £18million, is Edin Dzeko the missing link for Arsenal? Or is Lukas Podolski and Oliver Giroud sufficient enough for the North London club to mount a title challenge?
New signings Lukas Podolski and Oliver Giroud are yet to find the net for Arsenal in two games, prompting Arsene Wenger to look towards Edin Dzeko to provide the goals needed for Arsenal to mount a title challenge. Now further down the pecking order at Manchester City, Dzeko has proved that he can score goals at the top level whilst offering Premiership experience to a front line that has minimal knowledge of English football.
Built in a similar mould to new signing Oliver Giroud by offering height and ability in the air, Dzeko will provide no further threat to a side yet to score a goal in its first two games of the new season. In Giroud Arsenal already have a striker who can lead the front line by offering what Dzeko could. Giroud has proved that he is capable of finding the net having scored 21 goals in Montpellier’s title winning campaign last season in a league that is most comparable to the Premier League.
Furthermore, fellow new signing Lukas Podolski provides Arsenal with a wealth of international experience. Having been capped over 100 times for Germany, Podolski is proven goalscorer at international level offering the versatility of playing wide or central. It is therefore hard to think why both Giroud and Podolski with proven track records in the French and German leagues will not be sufficient enough for Arsenal.
Despite a lack of experience in the Premier League, it will be only a matter of time before both Podolski and Giroud find their shooting boots. Forming a partnership and understanding the philosophy Arsene Wenger praises at Arsenal will take time, and with the price tag of £18million pounds attached to Edin Dzeko, this money could be
spent strengthening other areas of the squad, possibly a replacement for Alex Song?
