Chelsea’s head of youth development Frank Arnesen has reportedly sent scouts to Belgium to take a closer look at KAA Gents Benito Raman, who is considered by many to be one of Europe’s hottest young prospects. Raman who has also attracted major interest from Ajax and Aston Villa this season has just signed his first professional contract with Belgian League runners up.
Inter Milan have also been linked with the attacking midfielder who only turned 16 in November but has already represented Belgium at Under 17 level. Chelsea are believed to have contacted his representatives with a view to Raman coming over to Cobham on trial. The signing of his pro contract though appears to have put a spanner in the works for the Premiership champions.
It is unlikely Chelsea would offer a fee for the player as he is only 16 but, after the Gael Kakuta fiasco of last season they would be likely to offer a massive compensation package based on appearances for the club and potential international caps. Either way the English champions will have their work cut out to secure the signature of Raman with interest likely to soar as the youngster plays more and more games for the clubs youth and reserve sides.
