The Everton fans have been feeling relatively miserable in the Transfer Tavern of late due to their side’s struggle to put together a positive run of results in the Premier League, but recent reports have given them reason to be optimistic for the future.
It’s been a disappointing season for the Toffees and the supporters are willing the season to reach its conclusion already with 6 fixtures still to play. Sometimes a football club just needs to wipe the slate clean and start again in the summer and, that’s exactly the situation Everton find themselves in right now.
The board will be forced to make a decision regarding the future of Sam Allardyce in the summer, but considering the level of discontent the supporters have shown towards their manager in recent months, it’s fair to assume he will be on his way out of Goodison Park.
However, according to the German media outlet Bild (via The Sun) the Everton hierarchy are currently considering who to bring into the club rather than who to force out, as Borussia Dortmund’s Shinji Kagawa (valued at £11.7 million by Transfermarkt) has emerged as a potential transfer target for the summer window.
Everton will face competition for the former Manchester United talent from their Premier League rivals West Ham according to the report, despite the fact the Japanese international struggled to impress during his spell with the Red Devils. The transfer news should be greeted with optimism by the Everton supporters as his record in the Bundesliga suggests he deserves a second-chance in English football.
Kagawa would inject flair into a side which has been desperately devoid of inspiration in the final-third at times this season and, his presence at the club could be a huge benefit to Wayne Rooney in midfield.
Rooney has been in decent form for Everton since he joined the club on a free transfer from Manchester United last summer, but he has been lacking a level of consistency which could enable his side to compete for a place in the top-six next season.
However, Kagawa’s arrival could serve to alter that trend, as his technical ability and guile in midfield would ease the creative burden which is currently placed on Rooney’s shoulders and, for that reason, Everton should do everything they can to sign Dortmund’s play-maker this summer.
