The Arsenal fans by the bar in the Transfer Tavern had been hoping for a swift conclusion to this saga…
An impressive start to the 2016/17 campaign by Arsenal has been marred somewhat – with the Gunners as of yet proving unsuccessful in their attempts to tie a few of their star players down to new long-term contracts.
Alexis Sanchez is one of the more high-profile players that Wenger is hoping to keep at the Emirates, with discussions reportedly taking place over the last few months.
However, it would appear as though any positive conclusion is far away from being found – with a report by the Daily Mail generating a fair bit of concern amongst the Gunners in the Tavern.
The Daily Mail say that Sanchez has received a plethora of offers from the Chinese Super League, a league that has not been afraid to splash the cash on some of Europe’s finest talents in recent years, with an offer of £400k-per-week on the table.
Whilst they do not suggest that Sanchez is necessarily keen on the move, they do suggest – and this is the sucker punch for Arsenal fans – that he is looking to use the offer as leverage to ensure that any deal works in his favour.
This is particularly significant when you consider that reports emerged yesterday via the Evening Standard that suggested talks between Sanchez (and Ozil) and Arsenal had hit an ‘impasse’ – with the Gunners refusing to step beyond the £200k-per-week mark.
Our landlord thinks that Sanchez appears insistent on getting a good deal for himself, and given Arsenal’s strict wage policy – that means that this could spell the end of his tenure in London.
The Arsenal fans in the Tavern are more optimistic, however, and are hoping that a deal can be reached down the road. All they know is that Sanchez has, without doubt, been their most important player so far this season – and so the Arsenal brass should do all they can to keep him.
