Arsenal fans scouring their smartphones in the Transfer Tavern for the latest transfer gossip have seen a new target emerge on their club’s short-list.
French outlet Le 10 Sport state the Gunners have identified Marseille midfielder Mario Lemina as they latest midfield target, with that area of their squad looking set to be Arsene Wenger’s major focus for the summer.
Arsenal’s downfall can be attributed to the absence of Santi Cazorla from their midfield, whilst Francis Coquelin’s long absence through injury also saw the Gunners experience some poor results, and with the Spaniard’s contract expiring next summer, Wenger’s focus has to be finding a leading replacement.
22-year-old Lemina, currently on-loan with Italian giants Juventus, may not stand-out as an excelling replacement but with Arsenal losing Mikel Arteta, Mathieu Flamini and Tomas Rosicky this summer, the Gunners need to improve the depth within their squad.
Whilst Arsenal still boast the likes of Jack Wilshere, Aaron Ramsey and Mohamed Elneny, the former has endured a wealth of injury problems whilst Ramsey is incredibly inconsistent. Meanwhile, Elneny has only just come to England.
It’s certainly cause for concern and a lack of the right signings would likely cost Arsenal once again next season and they cannot afford to let that happen with the race for a top-four Premier League finish becoming extremely competitive.
