There is some intriguing speculation making its way into the Football Transfer Tavern this morning as Metro suggest that Arsenal midfielder Santi Cazorla has confirmed that the Gunners want to sign his Spanish team-mate Iker Casillas.
The very experienced Real Madrid keeper’s future at the Bernabeu appears uncertain after he lost his starting berth to Diego Lopez in the past two seasons.
Lopez has been in outstanding form for the Los Blancos and Casillas has been limited to brief league appearances and cameos in the Champions League.
This could see the 32-year-old looking for a new club in the summer with Arsenal one of those thought to hold an interest in his services.
Arsene Wenger has put a lot of trust in current number one Wojciech Szczesny but as Gunners in the bar will tell you the Polish shot-stopper is rather inconsistent with some major errors costing the Emirates Stadium side this term.
Now Cazorla has admitted that he wants his international team-mate to join him at the Emirates Stadium.
The Spanish stopper is said to be ready to call time on his spell at Real if his situation remains as it is, and Cazorla wants him to choose the Emirates Stadium to be his new home.
He said: “I’ve told Iker I would like him to join Arsenal. His situation is very difficult but he has to make a decision.”
“Lots of clubs want him, including Arsenal.”
It’s a transfer we would like to see given Casillas’ reputation as one of the finest goalkeepers in the game but can you see it happening? Let us know your thoughts below.
