Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern have endured an indifferent season but they’re raising their glasses in optimism, as they predict a busy and exciting transfer window.
Claims from German outlet Suddeutsche Zeitung back up those views, as they state Arsenal are ready to rival fellow Premier League side Liverpool for the signature of World Cup 2014 final goalscorer Mario Gotze.
The German international has experienced mixed emotions with Bayern Munich as he’s struggled to force his way into the starter picture permanently under Pep Guardiola. There was hope that Carlo Ancelotti’s arrival could spark a revival but it seems the Italian deems the 23-year-old as surplus to requirements.
Given that Gotze’s contract with the Bavarian side expires next summer, Arsenal could land the stellar midfielder for just £16m and may unite him with international compatriots Mesut Ozil and Per Mertesacker.
Liverpool do of course have the link to Gotze through his former manager Jurgen Klopp but Arsenal are guaranteed Champions League football next term, whereas the Reds need to overcome Sevilla in next week’s Europa League final to achieve their spot.
Is Gotze the missing link to Arsenal’s midfield? Let us know in the comments below!
