Arsenal have received some injury news after it was revealed that Alexandre Lacazette could be fit for the Gunners' opening Premier League game against Newcastle United.

Manager Unai Emery spoke following the club's 2-1 loss to Barcelona in their final pre-season game, and he said:

"Hopefully he [Lacazette] could be available for the match against Newcastle. The doctors, they are optimistic. We are going to wait."

"The next days are going to be very important to see how he is going to progress with his injury. But I am really, really happy with other players also. If he is ready for Sunday, perfect. If he isn't, then for the next." (Source: The Sun)

Lacazette potentially missing the game may not give Arsenal as many problems attacking-wise. The North London club increased their attacking options when they signed Nicolas Pepe from Lille for a club-record fee of £72m. As well as Pepe, Iwobi is scheduled to return to training tomorrow, and could still be fit for the game on Sunday.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang would be the far better option upfront for Unai Emery next season, especially after the 2018/2019 campaign. Aubameyang outscored his French counterpart last season getting 22 goals in the Premier League as he shared the golden boot with Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane.

However, it wasn't just goals where the Gabonese flourished. The 30-year-old lost the ball on fewer occasions (1.2) than Lacazette (1.7), showing he has better hold up play (via WhoScored).

Lacazette may not be fit for the game against Newcastle, but it shouldn't matter too much, as Aubameyang is by far the better striker. The Gabon international's overall centre-forward ability is an asset to Arsenal, and Emery would benefit far more if he started upfront.
