Arsenal ALMOST captured world class star in July 2012

Pogba.jpgMetro have Arsenal fans rolling their eyes in a case of same old, same old here in the Football Transfer Tavern as they claim Arsene Wenger nearly signed Paul Pogba.

Now as our regulars note, this is just the latest in a very long line of world class talents who Wenger tried to land for his club, only to miss out on their permanent signing.

According to the Frenchman, he wanted to bring the midfielder to North London when it looked like he was going to leave Manchester United after being overlooked by then manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

However, as per usual, another club in the form of Serie A giants Juventus moved quicker in July 2012 with Wenger ultimately missing out on a player who his side could do with right now.

The Gunners are in dire need of a Patrick Vieira-type midfielder in the centre of the park after being humiliated on more than one occasion last term, not to mention flattering to deceive in 2014/15 so far.

Arsene Wenger was speaking to beIN SPORTS and noted: “As a footballer, he (Pogba) has everything. It is difficult to figure out what he doesn’t have.

“Things happened very quickly. We were interested in him. We tried to get him to come here. But he very quickly signed for Juventus.

“He has the potential to win the Ballon d’Or.”
