Arsenal and Man City both open talks with Dutch star ahead of £5m move

The Arsenal and Manchester City fans here in the Transfer Tavern are both preparing for their mouth-watering crunch clash later today.

Table toppers Manchester City play host to The Gunners at 2.15pm with an interesting clash in prospect.

But the battle on the pitch is not the only thing Man City and Arsenal are competing over, according to reports emerging this morning.

An exclusive report by The Sun is suggesting that both Arsenal and Man City are interesting in signing Ajax star Frenkie de Jong.

Both clubs have opened negotiations over a possible deal which could cost them in the region of £5m for the talented central midfielder.

The reason his price is so low is because he is entering the final eighteen months of his current deal with Ajax.

Pep Guardiola and Arsene Wenger will lock horns and go head to head in the battle to sign de Jong this January after he has continued to impress for Ajax in the Dutch Eredivisie.

Chelsea are also thought to be monitoring the 20-year-old’s situation.

The former Willem II man is highly rated by Ajax, who could be set to offer him a new deal, but Arsenal and Man City are looking to steal a march by commencing discussions over a possible switch to England.
