The Daily Mail has delivered news of a blow to both Manchester City and Arsenal as it has been claimed that Bayern Munich have managed to prise Mario Gotze away from Borussia Dortmund, having triggered his release clause of £32 million.
In reality it is no shock that a player like Gotze would like to join a club like Bayern. After all, the Bavarians have won the Bundesliga a record number of times, are set for the Champions League semi-finals tonight and are looking forward to Pep Guardiola’s imminent arrival in the summer.
Gotze will pen a deal with the Allianz Arena-bases side that will net him £6 million per year and keep him at Bayern for a lengthy period of time.
Not only is this obviously a huge blow for both Arsenal and Manchester City, both of whom wanted to land the young player but also for Borussia Dortmund who have lost both the German title and now the cup to Bayern and now their star young player to boot. Gotze was under contract at Signal Iduna Park until 2016, yet the lure of a move to the champions and such a massive club has proved too much of an attraction for the 20-year-old.
Arsenal and City fans. How gutted are you to have missed out on a talent like Gotze? Let us know your thoughts below.
