It’s quietening down in the Football Transfer Tavern after another hectic Sunday but before the bar closes for the evening Metro journalist Jamie Sanderson has popped into let us know that Bastia sensation Florian Thauvin will cost Premier League clubs £6 million if they want to sign him.
Both Arsenal and Newcastle United are thought to be monitoring the youngster’s progress and are understood to be preparing to bid for Thauvin after making contact with Bastia in recent weeks.
Alan Pardew has already seen a £3 million bid rejected for the 20-year-old while Arsene Wenger has also held talks about signing one of the hottest prospects in France.
However according to French sources, Bastia president Pierre-Marie Geronimi has since told they must cough up at least £6m if they want to tempt the Ligue 1 side into selling.
Sanderson explains to the punters in the bar that this fee means that the French Under-21 international, who is contracted until 2015, is likely to stay with the Corsican club until at least the summer. However the 20-year-old has made it clear he wants to leave the club in the near future, opening up the possibly of a summer transfer.
