In news that has caused punters to put down their pints this evening and gather round the bar, the Daily Star report that Alexandre Pato’s club Corinthians are ready to listen to January offers for the Arsenal and Tottenham target.
The 24-year-old Brazilian international returned to his native his country after ending his six-year stint with AC Milan as he struggled with injuries at the Serie A which meant he never fulfilled his real potential.
Back in Brazil, the clinical forward seems to have found his scoring boots again with 10 goals for the Brazil side which has led to suggestions of a possible return to Europe as Premier League clubs eye up the striker.
Now Corinthians director of football Roberto de Andrade has seemingly opened the door for Pato’s exit after revealing that the club will hold talks with any interested parties as they try to cash in on their prized asset.
“When we bought Pato, it was because it was an opportunity, he is a great player,” he said.
“He is a kid – still very young – we don’t regret it. He will make the fans very happy.
“We can negotiate about him, like any player. But in order to have a negotiation, there must be clubs interested in signing him and Pato so far has not asked to leave.”
It was reported only last week that Arsenal reportedly saw a £8 million bid rejected in recent weeks while Tottenham are thought to maintain long-term interest in Pato which could bring about another transfer battle between the North London rivals in the near future.
