Arsenal and Tottenham set to duel for Argentine

higuain.jpgFans of both North London rivals Arsenal and Tottenham here at the Football Transfer Tavern today have looked up with interest at the latest claims from the Daily Express who note that Gonzalo Higuain may well be ready for a move this summer.

The forward has seen his place in the Real Madrid starting line up look less than assured this season and lack of form coupled with niggling injuries has seen Karim Benzema become Mourinho’s man of choice for the big games faced by the club.

Despite being under increasing pressure, the Argentine forward has struck five times in his last six games and is capable of putting those big chances away – hence the interest in his future from both Arsenal and Spurs.

The forward himself claimed to Marca that he was unsure of his future and noted that: “I’m not going to talk about that now.

“I can only say that I’m committed to the club and will help the team until the end of the season.”
Despite his father Jorge claiming that it would be a great opportunity for the player to experience life in England, the forward would ideally like to stay in Spain where he is settled in a place fondly regarded as home. Much will depend on the future of his manager Jose Mourinho and should a new gaffer come in, new opportunities may well be presented to the player.
