Arsenal back in the hunt for ex-Chelsea ace

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has surprised the Football Transfer Tavern this summer with his lack of signings but he may be closing in on Lille forward Salomon Kalou, according to the Daily Mail.

The former Chelsea winger is just one of a number of targets that Wenger is hoping to bring in before Monday night’s transfer deadline although the defence and centre forward areas are of more concern to the Gunners supporters.

West Bromwich Albion and West Ham United have both made offers to Kalou this summer but the Ivory Coast international has turned both down as he was not guaranteed first team football week in, week out.

Arsenal cannot offer Kalou that either but they can give him Champions League football and a chance of returning to the highest level which could be hard to turn down.

Wenger claims that he is not in the mood for panic buying but the Kalou link has a whiff of desperation about it as the Arsenal boss struggles to add players to his thin squad.

The lack of transfer activity has frustrated Gunners fans but two away wins last week has quietened them down with the North London derby to come on Sunday.

Kalou is happy to stay in France but a move to Arsenal may be a tricky one to say no to.

“I am definitely happy in French football,” said Kalou.

“I take a lot of pleasure playing here in France.

“I did struggle to settle in the first place, but nowadays I am very happy to play week in, week out.”

Arsenal fans. Would you be interested in signing Kalou or would this be an underwhelming panic buy? Let us know your thoughts below.
