Arsenal back in the race for top transfer target?

higuain.jpgThe Daily Mail have made a rather interesting claim for Arsenal fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern as they note that the club could well be back in the race for Gonzalo Higuain.

The Real Madrid forward had been on the radar of Arsene Wenger all summer, yet after the manager more recently turned his attentions to Liverpool’s Luis Suarez, it seemed that the forward – who his side now claimed was worth £40 million – would not be joining the club anytime soon.

Napoli – rivals to Arsenal for Higuain’s signature – have money to spend after selling former star man Edinson Cavani to Paris Saint-Germain, but the Serie A outfit have baulked at Higuain’s £35 million asking price handing the initiative to Arsenal.

Real Madrid reportedly continue to trail Tottenham’s Gareth Bale and need to raise funds seeing club president Florentino Perez willing to accept offers and given Higuain still wants to leave the club, Wenger remains in something of a powerful position to land him still.

Will this long winded saga still end up in Higuain transferring to Arsenal this summer? Let us know your thoughts below.
