Arsenal beat deadline to sign Welbeck on long-term deal

Welbeck.jpgArsenal fans in the Football Transfer Tavern didn’t know whether they were coming or going when it comes to Danny Welbeck yesterday but as of this morning, he is now officially a Gunner.

BBC Sport carry the story that Arsene Wenger’s side have completed a £16 million swoop for the Manchester United forward on a long-term deal.

Welbeck will now surely get a regular run in his favoured centre forward’s position following Olivier Giroud’s injury.

Earlier on deadline day, Arsenal categorically denied that they had any interest in the Manchester United forward.

However, after applying for special permission to sign Welbeck past the 11pm deadline, Arsene Wenger finally got his man after shockingly completing a flight to Rome earlier in the day to referee in a charity match!

Our resident Gunners in the tavern are split on the arrival of Welbeck with many stating they will be replacing Yaya Sanogo in the starting line-up with another forward who isn’t exactly bursting with confidence.

Our more optimistic Gooners however are relishing the fact that Arsenal have signed another English player who could thrive in being played through the centre on more or a regular basis. They are hoping he can replicate the rise of Liverpool’s Daniel Sturridge.

Arsenal fans. What do you make of the signing of Danny Welbeck? Have you had a good overall transfer window or has Arsene Wenger still been negligent? Let us know your thoughts below.
