Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern have endured a terrible weekend, which saw their slim chances of winning the Premier League title dashed, but at least there is some positive news on the transfer front.
The Daily Mirror says Arsenal have opened talks with Borussia Monchengladbach for the services of Swiss international Granit Xhaka, who the Gunners have scouted an astonishing 30 times during the course of the season.
Arsene Wenger is keen to bolster his midfield ranks this summer, especially with veteran trio Tomas Rosicky, Mathieu Flamini and Mikel Arteta all seeing their contracts expire in the summer, and Xhaka is a leading target.
The Gunners are reported to have already tabled a bid worth £24m for the international ace and, whilst Gladbach are holding out for a fee closer to the £32m mark, Arsenal are confident of getting a deal over the line.
If a deal went ahead for the price Arsenal have put forward, it would be the Gunners third most expensive signing after the transfers of Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez in recent years.
At the age of just 23, Xhaka already boasts 40 caps for Switzerland and over 200 appearances at club level, meaning he is extremely experienced despite his young age.
