Arsenal blow confirmed as Wenger delivers bad news ahead of derby clash against Tottenham

The Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern are desperate for their side to get one over on their North London rivals on Saturday. Arsenal are set to take on Tottenham this weekend in a clash that is sure to get pulses racing in the pub, with the build-up already beginning amongst rival fans.

Unfortunately for the Arsenal faithful, though, some bad news has drifted into the Transfer Tavern courtesy of Arsene Wenger himself ahead of the game. According to Wenger (via injury expert Ben Dinnery), Olivier Giroud is set to miss the clash through injury – after sustaining a problem during the international break. Fortunately, it is deemed a ‘short-term’ problem, and so his lay-off shouldn’t be too long, but it is a blow nonetheless.

On any other day, this would have been something that most fans could get over, but it has certainly hurt the mood of the Gunners faithful today – such is the disdain for their London rivals. Most fans would trade a few weeks of losses in order to get one over on the Lilywhites, and so they would have loved for Wenger to have his entire squad to choose from this weekend.

Alas, it was not to be, and now the Frenchman has a decision on his hands to not only choose a forward to start the game, but to also ensure that he has enough options on the bench.

Landlord’s Verdict

Alexandre Lacazette was always likely to start the game, and so that is near certain to be the case now without Olivier Giroud to choose from for the Gunners.

The problem for Wenger will come in the form of his other options, with Giroud often a reliable choice to call upon if they need a goal late in the game. If it does indeed come to that this time around, someone else will need to step up and become a hero.
