Arsenal board to hand Wenger ‘as much money as he wants’ to rebuild squad

wengerwengerArsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern ended the season with a smile on their face after pipping Tottenham Hotspur to second place in the Premier League, ensuring they finished above their rivals for 21 consecutive years, and there’s more good news for them today.

The London Evening Standard quotes Arsene Wenger as being confident he will be handed whatever funds necessary to improve on the under-par squad from this season, with a number of top-targets in their sights.

Arsenal are keen to land Granit Xhaka from Borussia Monchengladbach before the European Championships kick-off and Wenger has also confirmed he’ll be in the market for a striker, after Danny Welbeck’s latest injury problem put him on the sidelines for nine months.

Speaking to BBC Sport after yesterday’s final day victory over relegated Aston Villa, Wenger was optimistic on the cash he’ll have to spend this summer.

“Stan Kroenke is completely behind myself and the board investing as much money as we want. It has to be in respect of a balanced budget, we have resources but the problem is finding players. Everybody has money in England and they’re all after good players.”

“The good players aren’t legion, you have to be shrewd and be a little bit lucky.”

Wenger enters twenty years in charge of the Gunners this summer and with his contract set to expire at the end of the 2016/17 season, it’s likely that Arsenal will enter a period of transition to prepare for life without their great servant to the club.
