Arsenal boosted as transfer target turns down new contract

KhediraArsenal fans in the Football Transfer Tavern have every reason to be cheerful following the high profile capture of Alexis Sanchez yesterday.

The Daily Star reckons more good news on the transfer front could be imminent.

The Gunners have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira, with the Germany World Cup star understood to have turned down the offer of a new contract with the Champions League winners.

Reports in Spain suggest Khedira turned down the offer of a two-year contract extension today and has told his advisors he wishes to make the switch to the Emirates Stadium.

The former Stuttgart midfielder is currently preparing for Sunday’s World Cup final and was one of the goal scorers in Germany’s spectacular 7-1 semi-final demolition of the hosts Brazil on Tuesday evening.

Khedira has just one year remaining on his current contract, meaning the Spanish giants are likely to sell for the right price rather than risk losing him on a free in 12 months’ time.

Arsene Wenger is reportedly ready to lodge a £24 million bid, however the wages could prove a stumbling block.

Khedira is on a whopping £150,000-a-week at the Bernabeu and would become Arsenal’s highest paid player ahead of Mesut Ozil, were he to have his contract demands matched.
