The Arsenal and Manchester United supporting punters here in the Transfer Tavern are always a fairly competitive bunch and both sets of fans are eagerly awaiting next week’s massive game at Old Trafford.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has experienced many a spat with his counterparts over at United over the years and a report on football website Goal indicates that he wasn’t overly pleased at a piece of business Louis van Gaal tried to do during the January transfer window.
The French manager has admitted that it was he who denied right-back Mathieu Debuchy the chance to join United on loan, with the ex-Newcastle United defender instead heading back to his homeland to sign for Bordeaux.
Wenger told Goal: “I hope you do not think this is surprising. You loan players to clubs who do not have resources. Certainly not direct rivals.”
One die-hard Gunner is starting early on the shots and thinks Wenger was spot on not to allow United to strengthen their squad with one of his fringe players.
Arsenal fans… Do you respect Wenger for this decision or is it somewhat petty?
