As has become common of late in the Football Transfer Tavern, attention is firmly on the Premier League leaders Arsenal.
This time it is due to the latest reports from talkSPORT who suggest that Arsene Wenger has stated he isn’t considering a move for Fulham’s Dimitar Berbatov despite speculation to the contrary.
It was reported in the tavern earlier in the week that Berbatov had emerged as surprise transfer target for the Gunners as they look to solve their striking crisis.
Arsenal’s two out-and-out centre-forwards, Olivier Giroud and Nicklas Bendtner, were both doubtful for today’s Saturday’s Third Round clash against Tottenham and punters in the tavern have urged Wenger to recruit a new striker in the winter window.
Berbatov, 32, is thought to be unsettled at Fulham following their poor start to the season and Wenger has been tipped to bring him to the Emirates in a cut-price deal as he has less than six months left on his contract at Craven Cottage.
However, when asked about the Bulgarian forward, Wenger said: “He is not a name we have considered at the moment.
“I don’t want to talk about any specific name. We are considering our options at the moment and at the moment they are quite restrictive.”
