Our landlord here in the Football Transfer Tavern has some news which we are very keen to hear over our pints, as the Daily Mail seems to think that despite reports to the contrary, Arsene Wenger is not interested in signing Dimitar Berbatov this winter.
We had been under the impression that the former Tottenham Hotspur player could well be on his way to the red half of North London, especially given the current injury issues Arsenal are currently suffering from.
Manager Arsene Wenger was asked about the links with the forward, who is currently playing his trade at struggling Fulham, and claimed: ‘I won’t go into any specific names. That would be disrespectful. We are assessing our options which are restricted. Berbatov is not a name we have considered.
‘We are analysing the situation. Until we know about Bendtner and (Yaya) Sanogo we will make a decision on that. The players who can strengthen our squad are under contract.’
Arsenal are of course flying high at the top of the table and are still setting the pace, despite most punters predictions that the Gunners would have fallen by the wayside now.
They are of course set for an epic FA Cup third round tie against rivals Spurs this weekend.
