Arsenal boss hits back at critics

arsene-wenger_1588272cMetro contain some rather angry quotes from Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger today in the Football Transfer Tavern as they note that the manager has finally snapped back at the media and fans.

After a summer where the manager promised that not only did he have a £70 million kitty to spend, but e would be bringing in top players who would finally allow the side to win titles again, none of this has happened and fans are fuming.

With the likes of Stevan Jovetic, Gonzalo Higuain and Bernard all slipping through the Gunners fingers, not to mention the embarrassing chase for Luis Suarez, our punters can understand the frustration of fans.

Now the club have been linked with a move for Real Madrid legend Iker Casillas and it seems the crazy summer is set to continue.

Wenger raged at fans during his pre-Fenerbahce press conference and claimed: “You can’t reproach us on one side for not buying and yet on the other side when we try to buy to reproach us as well. That is a bit contradictory.

“I would just like to reiterate to you that in the last 16 years we have been very successful with transfers – if you look at the players who play tomorrow, they are top quality players, and you should never forget that.

“It is not always to think what is outside is better than what you have.

“What is important as well is to rate what you have and our fans have to understand that as well.”

Clearly Wenger has lost patience with fans and the media criticising his methods, but as one of our punters quips, there are not many managers of a top club who would be allowed to go nearly nine seasons without winning a trophy.

Arsenal may have been the invincibles at one time, but now they seem to be a laughing stock.

If there is to be  another last minute flurry at the Emirates Stadium, who realistically is going to join up? Let us know your thoughts below.
