Arsene Wenger’s side ended the summer as the only side in Europe’s top-five leagues not to add a senior outfield player to their squad, a decision that left many supporters furious.
Whilst Arsenal were linked with a number of stars the Gunners’ pursuits were unsuccessful, leaving Wenger relying on Olivier Giroud and Theo Walcott for this year’s campaign.
Arsenal boss Wenger has lifted the lid on one pursuit though, indicating he was lied to by Monaco– who were adamant they wouldn’t sell Layvin Kurzawa and Anthony Martial but both left the French principality side- with the latter joining Manchester United in a £36m deal.
The quotes come via The Daily Star but Wenger’s comments will do little to appease the supporters, as it’s clear that Arsenal didn’t test Monaco’s resolve on the 19-year-old forward.
Martial has since excelled at Old Trafford, scoring four goals in his first three matches, and you’d bet on him causing pain to Arsenal in this weekend’s crunch-tie at the Emirates.
