Metro have some rather interesting news for Arsenal fans to reflect on here in the Football Transfer Tavern.
They claim that Arsene Wenger pulled out of signing Schalke’s Julian Draxler because of his price tag.
Our landlord notes that this may seem a good thing for Arsene Wenger now.
Saving £37 million for a player that you are not totally convinced is worth is could certainly be better than doing a £50 million Fernando Torres.
The issue could well be the fact that come the summer, should Wenger still be keen on bringing Draxler to the Emirates Stadium, he will now face a huge battle with a host of clubs, including the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United.
Draxler is one of the hottest properties in the world at the minute and come the summer, the chances of him staying in the Bundesliga are very slim.
Now however, the price tag will most likely rise, and as our regulars note over their recovery snacks, if Wenger is reluctant to pay the £37 million, he certainly will not want to pay any more.
The likes of Chelsea have an infinite pool of money, and will have no issues splashing out.
Will Wenger regret not landing Draxler in January? Let us know your thoughts below.
