Punters in the Football Transfer Tavern are looking up with resigned smiles on their faces as Metro claim that Arsene Wenger is considering a £50 million swoop for Edinson Cavani.
This, as one of our punters notes, is nothing less than we expected upon seeing that number one forward Olivier Giroud was out until the New Year with a serious injury.
Wenger has been sniffing around Uruguayan international Cavani for the majority of the summer and to target the Paris Saint-Germain forward now makes perfect sense.
We actually think that the injury to Giroud could well turn out to be a good thing with Arsenal in dire need of a forward and a world class one at that.
Had Giroud stayed fit, we certainly do not think that Wenger would have splashed the cash needed in order to get the missing piece in the puzzle and lead his side to the Premier League title.
Arsenal fans. Do you think that £50 million is too much for the Uruguayan? Will Wenger now be held to ransom because he waited until the end of the window? Let us know your thoughts below.
