Arsenal fans are looking stunned at the latest claim coming from Metro here in the Football Transfer Tavern.
This is all because the publication have claimed that Gunners manager Arsene Wenger would NOT have signed Danny Welbeck.
The England international forward of course signed for £16 million on transfer deadline day after moving from Manchester United.
At one point we did not think the North London side were going to sign anyone, especially given Wenger was out of the country in Rome refereeing in a charity football match.
Now it seems that had the Gunners boss had his way, that would have been the case and Welbeck would have been signed on loan – if at all.
Wenger sensationally claimed: “If I had not been away on deadline day, Welbeck would not have signed. That’s the truth.
“The advantage of that day was I got up at 6am and was available the whole day.
“I will tell the story one day.”
As one of our regulars notes, we would give up our top shelf spirits to hear that story, not to mention what 23-year-old Welbeck makes of it!
Arsenal fans. What on earth do you make of these rather strange comments? Are you glad Welbeck signed anyway? Let us know your thoughts below.
