Eyes are being rolled here in the Football Transfer Tavern as it is claimed that Manchester City could well be set to bid for another one of Arsenal’s players – well according to the Daily Mirror anyway.
The Citizens have made several bids for Arsenal players in seasons gone by and have lured Samir Nasri, Gael Clichy and Emmanuel Adebayor to the Etihad Stadium. Arsenal are used to losing their players to both Manchester clubs and also to Barcelona yet this latest bid may prove a step too far for Wenger and the fans.
City are in keeping with their policy of buying young British players and Carl Jenkinson is surprisingly top of their new most wanted list. The defender may have made a nightmare debut season for Arsenal but this term he has managed to develop into more of a mature player who is a regular in and amongst Arsene Wenger’s first team plans.
The 21-year-old is a well publicised life long fan of the Gunners however and has been tied down to a long-term deal and if anyone would be likely to rebuff City’s advances it is him. Having only cost £1 million from Charlton Athletic, if Arsenal did eventually sell the former Finland Under-21 international it would certainly mean they would make a substantial profit on the initial outlay.
Do you think Jenkinson will stay loyal to Arsenal? Has this story been on the booze? Rate this rumour below.
