Metro are providing us with some juicy gossip here at the Football Transfer Tavern today. It has been claimed that Arsenal are closing in on the signing of FC Basel’s Aleksandar Dragovic after being impressed with his recent performance against North London rivals Tottenham in the Europa League.
The Austrian international centre back put in a brilliant performance against Spurs in the Europa League this week and has been nothing short of inspirational at the back since he joined the Swiss club in 2011. After sending scouts to look at the player during the Spurs tie, Wenger is becoming more and more determined to add the 22-year-old to his back line.
The manager has been linked with just about everyone who can defend this summer and Swansea City’s Ashley Williams was thought to be a favourite of the Frenchman yet now it seems he is casting his eye abroad as well.
Not only is Wenger on the look out for a centre half, he is also considering moving for a keeper this summer with Pepe Reina and Victor Valdes both on his radar. A mass exodus is expected at the club this summer with Bacary Sagna, Andre Santos, Johan Djourou and Sebastian Squillaci all set to depart for nominal fees.
Is Dragovic Arsenal’s answer to more of a sturdy defence? Rate this rumour below.
