Arsenal chase late deal for Dutch Vermaelen replacement

vlaar.jpgOne day managers will do all their transfer business in plenty of time rather than wait for deadline day – but until then, the Football Transfer Tavern will always be buzzing on this day.

Late deals and rumours are already flooding in this morning and according to Metro, Arsenal have made a late move for Aston Villa’s Ron Vlaar.

Wenger’s side still haven’t replaced Belgium international Thomas Vermaelen after he left the North London club for Barcelona last month.

And it seems that the French manager has penciled in Vlaar as the perfect replacement and enquiries are currently being made.

However, Wenger may have his work cut out persuading the Dutchman to give up first team football and captaincy at Villa Park to become the Gunners’ fourth choice defender.

Rumours also suggest that the North London outfit are keen on giving Serbian international defender Matija Nastasic the chance to resurrect his career, but it remains to be seen whether Manchester City would sell to a direct rival.

Arsenal fans. Like a man on Valentine’s Day, Wenger has left his shopping till the last minute. But is the purchase of Vlaar the equivalent of petrol station flowers? Let us know your thoughts below.
