Arsenal and Chelsea fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are disappointed to hear the latest news from Sky Sports.
They report that Gunners and Blues transfer target Mario Mandzukic is on the verge of joining newly crowned La Liga champions Atletico Madrid.
The Croatian international forward has been linked with the London duo since the January transfer window, but Bayern Munich sporting director Matthias Sammer has confirmed an agreement has been reached with Atletico.
The 28-year-old had said earlier in the summer thjat he was looking to leave the Allianz Arena after two seasons, with Bayern having completed the signing of Robert Lewandowski from Borussia Dortmund.
And Sammer has revealed that Diego Simeone has won the race for the highly-rated forward’s signature, who is set to arrive as a replacement for Chelsea bound Diego Costa at the Vicente Calderon.
“There is a verbal agreement between Atletico Madrid and Bayern Munich, as well as between Atletico Madrid and Mario Mandzukic,” he told Deutsche Presseagentur.
“Although nothing has been signed yet, I believe that we all will stay true to our words.”
Mandzukic fired 25 goals in all competitions for Bayern last season, and struck two for his country in their World Cup Group A victory over Cameroon.
