According to the Daily Star, World Cup winner Sami Khedira could leave the Bernabeu on a free transfer as his contract continues to wind down in the Spanish capital.
Despite meeting with the club hierarchy at Madrid, the 27-year-old German still hasn’t agreed to sign a new deal.
It is looking more than likely that the former Stuttgart midfielder will either be sold in January or allowed to leave on a free at the end of the season.
Arsenal fans were desperate to snap him up in the summer as there was speculation of him departing the club then but Arsene Wenger was yet again put off by a steep asking price.
But Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is also keeping tabs on his former player as he looks to continue his raid on La Liga after already drafting in Cesc Fabregas, Filipe Luis and Diego Costa in the summer.
Khedira is injured at the moment but will return to full fitness after the next international break and Los Blancos boss Carlo Ancelotti has apparently praised the players’ attitude during this period of uncertainty and would have no qualms about putting him on the field.
Arsenal fans. Can you fathom why Wenger didn’t pay the asking price for Khedira in the summer given your desperate need for a top class defensive midfielder?
