The international break is always met with some disillusionment in the Football Transfer Tavern as the Premier League is put on hold with just the latest transfer rumours entertaining punters.
Now Metro report that both Arsenal and Chelsea have been put on red alert after West Bromwich Albion striker Saido Berahino refused to pen a new deal The Hawthorns.
The striker started the season as a virtual unknown but after netting two goals in his first two games for the England Under-21′s while also hitting a stunning hat-trick on his full Albion debut against Newport County in the Capital One Cup, he made an impression on most in the tavern.
His winner earlier this season during the Baggies’ 2-1 victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford has now created attention from across the Premier League with scouts watching him from the Emirates Stadium and Stamford Bridge in recent weeks.
The Burundi-born forward, who has scored six goals in his nine Premier League appearances, is currently on a deal worth a very basic £850-a-week which he still has 18 months left to run.
While the Baggies are still hopeful that he will sign a new deal, it’s possible that his head has been turned with interest from top Premier League clubs as it emerges that he has rejected a new £7,000 contract from his current club.
