Arsenal fans here in the Tavern are praying that their side can secure another couple of world-class signings in the summer, as they may be able to challenge for the title next season.
The Gunners have had a season to forget in many respects as they look like missing out on a top-four spot, with their only hope of securing Champions League footballing being via the Europa League. Although, Arsenal already look to be weighing up a potential summer transfer window move, as according to Bild, Arsenal are closing in on the signing of Sokratis Papastathopoulos.
The Greek defender is out of contract in 12 months, and the German giants are set to cash in this summer, with his price-tag expected to be around €20 million (£17.5 million).
Indeed, it’s claimed that the Emirates is the defender’s ‘probable’ destination in the summer where he’d be reunited with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
Encouragingly, it’s understood that the Gunners head of recruitment Sven Mislintat is the man pushing for the deal, as he is thought to have close ties with Papastathopoulos’ agent Konstantinos Farras.
Arsenal will be delighted that their new head of recruitment is already working wonders at the club, as the Borussia Dortmund defender may be on his way to North London in the summer transfer window. And, having witnessed the Gunners’ questionable defending at times in the current campaign, perhaps this will give them the upper-hand next season.
