Arsenal supporters in the Football Transfer Tavern are still waiting for their side to make any significant movements in the transfer market but they could be set to land their second summer signing.
The Daily Star reports that the Gunners are ‘close’ to clinching the signing of former Schalke striker Ciprian Marica, according to his agent.
Suggestions have been thrown around the tavern that Arsenal have been offered the free agent after his contract expired at the Bundesliga club and these reports have certainly raised a few eyebrows in the bar.
Numerous clubs across Europe are keeping their eye on Marica, with Shakhtar Donetsk, Lazio and Inter Milan all reportedly interested in the Romanian international forward.
But his agent Giovani Becali has revealed he is now closing in on a move to Arsenal, having already accordingly held talks with the English club.
He told Romanian newspaper Ring: “He is close to Arsenal. We’ll see this week.
“Marica is a very good striker, a Romanian international and very experienced in western European football,” he added.
“It is normal that he is targeted by big clubs, all the more so after he has completed his contract with Schalke.”
Marica would follow French youngster Yaya Sanogo on a free transfer to the Emirates Stadium while the Gunners are also giving trials to midfielders Sebastian Perez, 20, of Atletico Nacional and Alharbi El Jadeyaoui, 26, of Angers.
