Arsenal ‘close’ in transfer pursuit?

Liverpool FC vs FC Zenit St.PetersburgSensational is not the word when we consider the reactions of our punters today in the Football Transfer Tavern as we assess the news that Metro claim.

The publication reckon Liverpool’s Luis Suarez is closing in on a move to Arsenal.

Liverpool have rejected bids from Arsene Wenger’s side time and time again and despite the forward making it clear he wanted to leave the club, Brendan Rodgers stood firm in the fact that he was determined to keep the forward at Anfield and despite everyone having a value, it did not mean he had to sell said player.

Now it seems that Arsenal have finally matched the value Rodgers felt the player was worth and it turns out for the Northern Irish manager, it is too good to turn down.

Much like Robbie Keane professing that every club he joined was his ‘boyhood club’, Suarez hasn’t exactly covered himself in glory by saying he needed to leave England hence the desire to leave Merseyside and promptly holding out for a transfer down south. In case the Uruguayan hadn’t realised, the press are just the same in London!

South American journalist Martin Charquero is thought to be close to the player and noted on his Twitter account that ‘Luis Suarez is very close to Arsenal’.

Arsenal are thought to be willing to pay up to £40 million for the striker’s services despite him still having six games of his ten match suspension to serve.

Are Arsenal really close to pulling off what would be the signing of the summer? Let us know your thoughts below.
