Arsenal fans inside the Football Transfer Tavern are thrilled with the news coming in from Geoff Sweet of The Sun, who reckons Real Madrid forward Gonzalo Higuain’s move to Arsenal is at an ‘advanced stage’, according to the players father.
Arsene Wenger is ready to fund a club record £22 million move for the Argentine striker, who is also wanted by Italian giants Juventus.
Jorge Higuain has refused to confirm that personal terms – a contract believed to be worth £150,000 a week – have been agreed, but has confirmed the deal is nearing completion.
He insisted: “Nothing has yet been signed but I assure you the negotiations between the clubs are at an advanced stage.
“We won’t agree a contract before the clubs reach a transfer deal. I’m sure Arsenal made a big offer, and Juventus.”
Twenty-five-year-old Higuain is set to smash the club record £15 million Arsenal splashed out for Andrey Arshavin from Zenit St Petersburg in 2009.
Regarded as one of Europe’s top strikers, Higuain is hoping to fill the void left by Robin van Persie. His statistics in Spain suggest he may be able to do just that, with the striker managing an impressive 48 goals in 80 games across the last three seasons.
