Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern were greeted with surprise news this afternoon, with reports stating that their managerial position will not be available in the coming years.
The Sun claims that Arsene Wenger’s desire has been revitalised by Arsenal’s title push this season and he’s close to extending his deal at the Emirates Stadium, which will keep the Frenchman tied with the club until 2019.
Wenger, who marks 20 years in charge of the North London giants this summer, has 18 months remaining on his current deal and many in the tavern expected him to move upstairs in 2017- but instead it seems their manager is eyeing a deal that would ensure he remains in charge.
The Frenchman has overseen a huge period of transition for the Gunners as they left Highbury in 2006 for the Emirates Stadium and endured an eight-year period without any trophy, before securing consecutive FA Cups.
Arsenal’s financial situation is now much stronger, as shown by the purchases of Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez, whilst the Gunners are showing new capability in the title race; currently leading the charge as they aim to land their first Premier League crown in 12 years.
Our landlord believes Arsenal should hold fire for now, urging the Gunners to see how this season progresses, and in his eyes it all depends on who is available in 2017.
