Metro have a rather pleasing claim here in the Football Transfer Tavern – if you are an Arsenal fan that is.
The publication claim that the Gunners are close to netting a deal for Sporting Lisbon’s William Carvalho, who is of course one of their top targets.
The 21-year-old is considered to be something of an anchorman in the middle of the park, and has been on the radar of Arsene Wenger for some time now.
Arsenal have of course been ravaged by injury, with the latest being a huge blow to Theo Walcott, who has been ruled out of this summer’s World Cup for England.
This has of course led the Gunners to be linked with a host of forwards, including the likes of Alvaro Morata, but it seems to be Carvalho who they are most likely to land.
Wenger has money to spend this winter and is not afraid to do so, with a list of top targets being mooted.
As one of our punters notes, the Gunners may be flying high this season but there are more than a couple of positions that they need to strengthen.
Adding more steel in the middle of the park could well be a very good idea if they want to win the title.
Will the Gunners secure the signing of the Portugal international? Let us know your thoughts below.
