Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern were relieved last night to see Manchester United lose to West Ham, meaning the Gunners are guaranteed a top-four finish, and there’s now positive reports coming their way in the transfer market.
German media outlet RP Online have stated Arsenal had lodged a £33.1m bid for Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Granit Xhaka, who Arsene Wenger has been eying consistently in recent months.
The Swiss international has been scouted a staggering 30 times by the Gunners this season, who are keen to bolster their midfield ranks ahead of the exits of veteran trio Mikel Arteta, Mathieu Flamini and Tomas Rosicky, all of whom see their contracts in north London expire.
Earlier this week, the Bundesloga outfit conceded they’d struggle to fend off interest in Xhaka and they’ve now started to scour the market for potential replacements, with Bayer Leverkusen’s Christoph Kramer and Bayern Munich’s Sebastian Rode both targeted.
Arsenal hope to conclude a deal for the 23-year-old before this summer’s European Championship, with Xhaha heading to France with his national side.
