Arsenal are ‘talking’ about making Dani Ceballos’ loan deal from Real Madrid a permanent transfer, according to El Confidencial.
The seven-cap Spain international is thought to be enjoying his time in London so much, and he is also ‘regaining the sensations that a footballer gets when he feels important’.
According to the Spanish publication, the 23-year-old isn’t too keen on returning to the Spanish capital as it could hinder his development.
It is yet to be seen if a deal can be done with Real for the playmaker, who is contracted with the club until 2023.
Keeping Ceballos would be a smart move from Unai Emery, given the different quality he brings to the midfield. Of the players to have played in all eight games so far in the Premier League, the Spaniard has completed the second-most dribbles per game, second only to Nicolas Pepe (via WhoScored).
His ability to manoeuvre with the ball in tight corridors out of defence and midfield has brought about comparisons with the little magician Santi Cazorla. While Ceballos may be younger, he has the talent to potentially reach those heights. No one in the Arsenal squad has been fouled more times per game than Ceballos, showing the fear struck into opposition defences.
However, the on-loan Real man has also shown he has more of an end product compared to his fellow midfielders, scoring one goal and contributing two assists in his 11 games in all competitions, with the likes of Granit Xhaka and Lucas Torreira failing to set up a goal so far this season.
With better coaching, Ceballos has the quality to become a player like Cazorla and help the Gunners transition from defence to attack seamlessly. Signing him on a loan deal made sense in the summer and keeping him beyond next summer would boost the club’s midfield for years to come due to his tender age.
Was David Luiz a waste of money?
