Arsenal fans are looking up dubiously here in the Football Transfer Tavern as The Independent claim that the Gunners are closing in on Morgan Schneiderlin despite the midfielder claiming he is happy at Southampton.
The Frenchman has pushed for a transfer all summer long and has even taken to Twitter to express his unhappiness at St. Mary’s-based club.
However, the French international claimed to BBC Sport that: “For now, it is Southampton. I keep playing and doing my best. I always say that I am happy at Southampton.
“I’m not going to hide the fact that it has been a long summer with a lot of speculation and a lot of thinking on my side to know if I have to make a big step.”
As our regulars note, the words ‘for now’ might not mean for very long and it certainly does not inspire confidence that he will be staying with the Saints.
Arsene Wenger is reportedly ready to make a whopping £27 million bid to try and bring him in before the close of the transfer window this summer.
Arsenal fans. Is this something you think Wenger can pull off or is the Frenchman staying at Southampton, at least for now? Let us know your thoughts below.
