Metro seem to have Arsenal fans looking rather happy here in the Football Transfer Tavern as they claim that the Gunners are confident of landing William Carvalho before the transfer deadline.
Now as one of our regulars note, this is not the first time we have heard of this rumour with the North London club having been linked to the Sporting Lisbon star on several occasions but this time it seems that a deal will be concluded in the next couple of weeks.
We think signing a defensive midfielder is the best thing that Arsene Wenger can possibly do in this current transfer window.
Despite Francis Coquelin impressing in recent fixtures, the Gunners desperate for a physical presence in the middle of the park who is not on the wrong side of 30 and boasts some pace. This is not to mention the ability to anchor the team and guard the back four successfully.
Twenty-two-year-old Carvalho would cost the Gunners around £25 million – a figure that is small change in the modern game and a fee we think will only rise in seasons to come.
Arsenal fans. You’ve heard a lot about William Carvalho but do you think Wenger will step back from a deal given Coquelin’s impressive recent outings? Let us know your thoughts below.
