Metro reports that Arsenal could make a move for Bayern Munich midfielder Luiz Gustavo after the Bundesliga club admitted he could leave this summer.
While most of the speculation in the Football Transfer Tavern has been about the Gunners bringing a top quality striker to the club, Arsene Wenger has reportedly targeted a move for the Brazilian defensive midfielder as he looks to solve several issues in the centre of the park.
Gustavo can also offer cover at central defence and at full-back which would provide important versatility to Wenger’s side.
Bayern could sell the 25-year-old, who has collected 10 caps for his country, with Javi Martinez taking his place last season while promising Barcelona youngster Thiago Alcantara will add further competition for the new campaign.
Bundesliga side Wolfsburg are also set to offer the former Hoffenheim man a way out of the Allianz Arena after falling out of favour towards the end of last season.
However, Gustavo has announced that he hasn’t heard from any interested parties but did admit he could be tempted to leave his current employers this summer.
“I know nothing of the rumours,” he told Goal.com. “No one has spoken to me. We have to wait and see what happens now.”
Gustavo’s contract at the Bavarian club runs until 2015 but Bayern could accept a reduced fee of around £8million which may bring about interest from the Emirates Stadium.
